The Everest Base Camp trek is the world’s most iconic Himalayan journey, taking you through the heart of Sherpa homeland to the foot of the highest peak on Earth.

Trek Overview & Key Facts

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek spans 130 km round trip from Lukla. Standard duration is 12 to 14 days with two acclimatisation rest days in Namche Bazaar (3,440m) and Dingboche (4,410m).

Maximum elevation reached is 5,545 m atop Kala Patthar for unmatched views of Everest’s summit pyramid, Lhotse, and Nuptse.

Permits & Entry Fees 2025

Trekkers need two permits:

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit: NPR 3,000 (~USD 22) per person obtained in Lukla or Monjo.

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: NPR 3,000 (~USD 22) per person obtained at the park gate in Monjo or in Kathmandu.

Acclimatisation Schedule

Never skip acclimatisation days. Follow the "climb high, sleep low" rule. Spend Day 3 in Namche Bazaar hiking to Hotel Everest View (3,880m), and Day 6 in Dingboche hiking Nagarjun Hill (5,050m) before continuing to Lobuche and Gorak Shep.

Teahouse Life & Costs

Teahouses provide twin-share rooms and hearty communal meals. Dal Bhat is the staple, providing endless refills of rice, lentil soup, and fresh vegetables. Expect to spend USD 30–45 daily for food, charging, and hot showers.

Essential Gear Highlights

Pack a 4-season -15°C down sleeping bag, broken-in waterproof hiking boots, an 800-fill down jacket, UV 400 sunglasses, a 20,000 mAh power bank, and water purification tablets.

Conclusion

EBC is a transformative Himalayan experience that rewards fitness, respect for altitude, and responsible trekking practices.
